- [Last Word on Sports] - Davante Adams Would Love to Play for This Coachby Jack Witte on January 18, 2025 at 1:20 am
Star wide receiver Davante Adams was traded from the Las Vegas Raiders to the during the 2024 NFL season. The wide receiver's contract allows him to control where he wants to play for the 2025 season. Recently, he said he would love to play for head coach Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Davante Adams Wants to Join Steelers, Play For Mike Tomlin Davante Adams' Jets tenure did not go according to plan. Although he could return to the team in 2025, it seems unlikely at this point. Recently, Davante Adams said he would love to play for Super Bowl-winning head coach . Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are consistently over .500 each season. However, this has not translated to playoff success as the Steelers have not won a playoff game since 2016. https://twitter.com/heykayadams/status/1879239882700448176 The Fit in Pittsburgh The Steelers haven't had an elite wide receiver since Antonio Brown. is a great receiver, but he did not produce this season. Davante Adams is a surefire WR1. Adams has produced at least in seven straight seasons. The addition of Adams would help free up Pickens on the outside as well. These two could form an elite 1-2 punch for Pittsburgh's offense. Flaws with Davante Adams Joining the Steelers Although Adams is elite in his own regard, the Steelers offense needs more than just the addition of him to improve. The franchise has not had an elite quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger. Since Pittsburgh always has an above , they never have a high enough draft pick to take an elite quarterback prospect. Signing Adams doesn't change this. The Steelers need to answer their questions at quarterback before making any moves to attempt to get Adams. The Mike Tomlin effect Mike Tomlin is an extremely well-respected coach in the National Football League. Tomlin gets the most out of almost every team he coaches, which is why the Steelers are in the playoffs nearly every season. Davante Adams clearly sees how hard the Steelers for coach Tomlin and wants to be a part of that culture. What's Next? Davante Adams has plenty of options on the table. He could play for virtually any franchise he chooses. It has been rumored that Adams is also interested in a reunion with either the or Las Vegas Raiders. Adams was previously traded from both of these franchises but seems to be open to a reunion. If Adams ends up in a Pittsburgh Steeler uniform, it will be very interesting to see what they do at hte quarterback position. Russell Wilson is coming off of a mediocre season, and Pittsburgh doesn't seem to think much of backup Justin Fields. Will the Steelers trade up in the draft to take a quarterback? How about taking a look at free agents? Will they resign Russell Wilson to a cheap deal? These are all questions Pittsburgh needs to answer. Names like , Kirk Cousins, and maybe even Aaron Rodgers could be perfect fits for the Steelers, especially if they want to acquire Davante Adams. - Raiders coaching search: Who do you want if it’s not Ben Johnson?by Bill Williamson on January 17, 2025 at 10:28 pm
Mark Davis | Photo by Candice Ward/Getty Images Is there a 2nd choice for fans? The Las Vegas Raiders have started to request interviews for the coaching opening left by the firing of Antonio Pierce. They have requested to talk to five candidates so far: Aaron Glenn, Ben Johnson, Steve Spagnuolo, Todd Monken, Robert Saleh, Pete Carroll, Vance Joseph and Ron Rivera. It’s been widely speculated by multiple media members that Johnson, the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator is the heavy favorite of the Raiders. However, ESPN speculated Friday that Johnson is not a sure thing to decide to coach the Raiders and that he is also in the mix for jobs with the Chicago Bears and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pro Football Talk chimed in that it believes Johnson will decide between going to the Raiders and staying with the Lions for another season. So, what if Johnson isn’t on board with the Raiders? Then what? Would one of the other seven candidates appeal to you? All of them other than Monken are defensive coaches of that group all but Glenn have head-coaching experience. There may be more candidates interviewed. But, as of now, which these coaches is on your radar if Johnson doesn’t pan out for the Raiders?

- Raiders coaching search: ESPN slows Ben Johnson hype trainby Bill Williamson on January 17, 2025 at 9:56 pm
Ben Johnson | Photo by Mike Mulholland/Getty Images 2 reporters from network suggest it’s not a done deal with Lions OC There has been a lot of media-driven momentum that suggests the Las Vegas Raiders will land perhaps the most coveted coaching candidate this hiring cycle in the form of Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. in recent days, multiple reporters and outlets have strongly pointed that Johnson is the target of Raiders’ ownership, led by part-time owner Tom Brady. Yet, Friday, one prominent NFL reporter suggested that that may not be the case. Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN reporter Adam Schefter said he doesn’t think the Johnson-Raiders pairing is a done deal. While giving reasons for his thoughts, Schefter did admit that Johnson, indeed, could end up in Las Vegas even though he believes both the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars, who also interviewed him, are still in the running as well. Also, fellow ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler backed up Schefter’s thoughts by saying he is hearing Johnson has an open mind when it comes to all three teams he’s interviewed with, suggesting there isn’t currently a favorite as others have suggested regarding the Raiders. To echo @AdamSchefter point, I hear these words when I ask about Ben Johnson process: Open mind. My sense is he’s keeping one as it relates to Vegas, Chicago, Jacksonville. https://t.co/7eEhGPJW4k— Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) January 17, 2025 “I know everyone’s got Ben Johnson anointed to the Raiders,” Schefter said. ”I’m not in that camp right now. I have to see it before I believe ... Why is everyone ignoring Chicago when it comes to Ben Johnson? Why is that just being dispelled. What am I missing here?” Schefter suggested the lack of a clear path to a quarterback and the difficult AFC West as reasons why the Raiders may not be the favorite to land Johnson. The Bears’ division, of course, the NFC North, is also tough and had three playoff teams as the AFC West did. The Jaguars are in a weak division. Both the Bears and Jaguars are also have set quarterbacks in 2025. Meanwhile, on the same show, PacMan Jones indicated the feel around the Deion Sanders camp is that Johnson will end up in Las Vegas. PacMan Jones is pretty strongly implying on McAfee that his close friend Deion Sanders wanted the Raiders job in order to coach both his sons, but that it has been indicated to him that Ben Johnson will end up in Las Vegas and Kellen Moore will be the coach in Dallas— Adam Hill (@AdamHillLVRJ) January 17, 2025 Then, Mike Florio said he thinks Johnson will either stick with the Lions for another year or go to the Raiders. "I think it's the Raiders or Lions, take that Raiders job or stay put for Ben Johnson."-Mike Florio explains why he doesn't think Ben Johnson will take any NFL vacancy just to become a Head Coach @ProFootballTalk pic.twitter.com/PNOYtSOr00— Dan Patrick Show (@dpshow) January 17, 2025 So, what does this all mean? All I can suggest is to stay tuned and try to stay sane during all of this.

- Divisional Round picks: Who we like in this weekend’s games, Silver and Black Pride’s Pick’em competitionby Matt Holder on January 17, 2025 at 9:48 pm
Ben Johnson, Jared Goff | Photo by Mike Mulholland/Getty Images Only 3 weekends of football left... There’s no Las Vegas Raiders football this weekend but we could be watching the Raiders’ future head coach as Ben Johnson, the current Detroit Lions offensive coordinator, heading to Las Vegas seems to be picking up steam. Also, we’re in the last stretch of our Silver and Black Pride Pick’em competition as there are only three weekends of NFL football left! To get things started, let’s take a look at the lines for the Divisional Round matchups, courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook, and make some picks. Houston Texans vs. Kansas City Chiefs Spread: KC -8.5 Holder’s pick: KC -8.5 I went against the Texans last week and got burned, but I’m crazy enough to do it again! Unfortunately, the Chiefs looked like they were hitting their stride at the end of the regular season and should be well rested after sitting the starters in Week 18 and having the bye week. Kansas City is just the better team and should be able to win by two possessions. Washington Commanders vs. Detroit Lions Spread: DET -9.5 Holder’s pick: DET -9.5 I guess I’m making picks out of stubbornness as I doubted Jayden Daniels and the Commanders last week, and I’m doing it again. The bigger factor here though is I don’t think Washington’s defense is good enough to keep Detroit and offensive mastermind Johnson (*wink*) in check. So, Saturday’s slate might be a snooze fest. Los Angeles Rams vs Philadelphia Eagles Spread: PHI -6.5 Holder’s pick: LAR +6.5 I like the Eagles to win outright here but the Rams are good enough to keep this one close and it wouldn’t be totally surprising to see them pull off the upset. Led by Defensive Rookie of the Year favorite Jared Verse, I’m excited to watch Los Angeles’ young defensive line go up against one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Baltimore Ravens vs. Buffalo Bills Spread: BAL -1.5 Holder’s pick: BUF +1.5 I’m conflicted on this one as the Ravens looked really good in their dominant win over the Steelers last week. But the Bills were also a force against the Broncos and I said ahead of the Wild Card Round that they’re my pick to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, so I’m sticking to it. No way Buffalo loses at home in front of Bills Mafia, right? Pick’em Competition Moving onto S&BP’s Pick’em competition, below is a look at how our writers have fared through the regular season and Wild Card Round. Ray Aspuria 203-74 (73%) Bill Williamson 195-83 (70%) Matt Holder 195-83 (70%) Ray just keeps trucking along and building his lead as he led the writers last week, going 5-1. That officially clinches the crown for Ray as he has an 8.5-game lead with just seven games left. Meanwhile, I just edged out Bill—4-2 versus 3-3—in the Wild Card Round to tie things up for second place. Community Standings 1. Bodega Bay Raider 203-75 t-2. Running With the Night 202-76 t-2 The Assassin 202-76 t-4. Roosky Raiders 200-78 t-4. Kid Dynamite 200-78 t-6. Gabe’s pickems 196-82 t-6. NC Hell Razors 196-82 t-6. Raider Nation 196-82 t-6. But the biggest winner from last weekend was Bodega Bay Raider. A week after falling out of the lead, Bodega Bay made a strong comeback to not only get back to the top of the standings but also own sole possession of first place! The Assassin and Running With the Night are still in the running though, sitting just one pick behind. Remember to get your picks in and may your picks be good!
